Thanks for the comment Paul, yes - car dependancy is very high in rural areas. I'm not the only one driving to my sons school. Every day around 200 cars arrive from the villages and hinterlands surrounding the school, and this happens in many rural areas. I've just had enough with the car thing, and don't like cars any longer after losing 2 of my cats to road accidents outside our house on the lane, plus also injuring another to the extent that he lost his leg (he gets by fine hopping along now!).

We were supposed to be 'green' people after our roles working in the countryside, and have become possibly quite 'ungreen' because of our dependancy on cars by living in a rural area!

A heartwarming life story and not quite what I was expecting!
What did strike me is how isolated and dependant on the car rural communities can be.
Recently we moved from a rural town (not as small as yours!) to Mansfield. Every day I used to join a snake of cars heading away from the town towards civilization and always thought - how silly, why don't we share, or where is the bus/train! Now I am close to a railway station and connected to frequent bus services. I can walk to a range of shops and buy fresh produce too.
There are so many choices of lifestyle and conscience that we can make and always a counter argument to any choice that is made.
What really matters is that we ALL do at least one thing... make one change in our lives - doing nothing, making no changes to what we do is the crime.
