very insightful article! I was not aware of the demographics of the nonprofit sector as much because I haven't done any work in that capacity. However, there are many intelligent women working with / above me who I would not consider geeks :O)

Hi Eric - thanks for spotting that - didn't mean it to portray in that way. Now amended sentence to read correctly!

If I may contribute a small correction: I wasn't asking why there were a low number of overall female respondents, nor was Rebekah. What I was charting, based on what Rebekah found, was that the proportion of women per age bracket goes up dramatically as the age brackets advance. So I was quickly (and probably poorly) speculating reasons for that pattern's existence.

Laura,
This got me thinking, am I a geek? At least for me, not in the way I see many men defining themselves and their roles. I am passionate about technology, but not for its own sake, but for what it can do. How it can further my other objectives. If it doesn't serve to deliver communication, or learning, or connection, I'm not much interested.

So perhaps as women we intersect with technology in a different way? It's more integrated with everything else we do.
